New Moon: The Vast Emptiness of Pure Possibility

Updated: Nov 14, 2020

Tonight we welcome the New Moon in Scorpio, which invites us to root out and burn up whatever remains festering in the wound, so that we can start clean and clear in the sweetness of possibility. It's the first moon-quarter since the U.S. election, and although there is room to breathe and even celebrate our progress, we also see how topical solutions to deep, entrenched wounds will only hold for so long. The Shadow must be reckoned with so we can emerge from the darkness into the new dawn, fully free.

I haven't pulled cards for a newsletter in a while, but today I was inspired to do so. The cards definitely followed this theme.

The 7 of Wands speaks of a struggle, being "up against it" and having to fight your way out. But this card from the Light Seer's Tarot has a twist: the way out is in. When it feels like all there is to do is fight or push back against opposition, remember there is also the option of opting out of the fight. Serenity can be had, even in the most uncomfortable of times. (I should probably sleep with this by my bed for a week and see if it can seep into my deep brain!)

Opting out, though, isn't the same as a spiritual bypass. Especially now, The Moon calls on us to go into our depths. Let the wolves howl from their respective sides; dive into the ocean of unity. Learn to see in the dark. Drift down beyond knowing, down beyond reason. The field of pure possibility lies beyond the grasp of the conscious mind. Here, beyond what we know, and what we know we don't know, lies the vast open space of infinite possibility.

Albert Einstein is reported to have said, "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." The third card, from Sarah Greenman's Creative Alchemy Oracle Deck, invites us to let go of how we've always known to do it (whatever "it" is) and make room for a new way of thinking. I can't help but feel that it's the Feminine mind, the holistic, spiralic, receptive mind that we have the opportunity to access. Allow your thinking to melt away from the linear frontal cortex to the deeper, subcortical mind. Allow your mind to spread out and soften, to receive the universal wisdom waiting for you.

What possibilities do you see from here?
